Abstract

Climate Change Adaptation interventions were implemented under USAID funded Hariyo Ban Program through CARE Nepal in different districts of Terai Arc Landscape (TAL) and Chitwan Annapurna Landscape (CHAL). For the changes assessment on the CCA and Integrated Sub-Watershed Management Program related interventions over the period of Hariyo Ban Program, a mapping of biophysical changes was carried out. The method of the mapping was done using the online-mapping techniques to gather information on the bio-physical changes from Field Officers who were based in the field in different districts. 'Google My Maps' and 'Google Earth Pro' Tools were used for the acquisition of mapping information at distributed platform. The study was carried out under Hariyo Ban Program which is a project implemented by a consortium  of WWF (Lead) and CARE Nepal.

The mapping was done later to show the changes and spatial locations of different CCA interventions and their impacts. A detailed protocol for the data collection from the field as per the guidance prepared and shared to the concerned field staff tohelp for the data collection from the field using Google Earth Platform which is in reality, an operational guide on how to collect data in the field using Google Earth Pro.Specifically, spatial layers have been generated based on the previous attempts of data collection and new data were collected as per the protocol in the form of KML layers in the background of GoogleEarth Images. These all includes the boundary of the sites i.e. CFUG or ISWMP sites, CCA interventions in the field, plantation activities, and watershed protection interventions. Based on the spatial layers of interventions and change cases, map layouts showing changes over time have been prepared and shared to project team. All the data collected from the field (district level) have been bundled. The bundled data have been consolidated as a KML layers so that field persons can use those maps in their Smart phones.
