Performance of wheat genotypes under Participatory Varietal Selection at mid-hills of Far-Western Development Region of Nepal

Lack of early maturing and high yielding improved genotypes of wheat has been associated with low wheat production in mid hills of Far –Western Development Region. Thus, several on-farm experiments as Participatory Varietal Selection were carried out to identify such genotypes at Baitadi under rainfed and irrigated conditions in collaboration with National Wheat Research Program, Bhairahawa. Each experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design consisting seven genotypes with three replications. The result of rainfed conditions revealed that WK2438 was early maturing genotype, whereas WK2272 was high yielding genotype. Similarly, in irrigated condition, genotype WK2422 was early maturing genotype, whereas grain yield of all genotypes were statistically at par. The genotypes WK2272, WK1204 and WK2438 were identified promising under rainfed condition at farmers' field at mid hills of Far –Western Development Region. Thus, these genotypes could be selected to recommend at this region. However, the experiment under irrigated condition should be repeated in next growing season for further validation.
